Fashionista I am not! Once upon a time, maybe. As a staff photographer at The World I am, however, an ardent observer of the everyday goings-on-about-town. Therefore, it is my belief, that I am the perfect fit to show the stylins of our fair cit(ies). That's right, Wenatchee et al., you've got style-and I intend to prove it. I want to know who you are and what your style is, so comment me and who knows, I might show up on your block for an impromptu photo shoot.

Park It!

I ventured out this morning in search of summer fashion in the park. I knew I’d found it when I spotted Chrystal Grimes, 20, with her sister and friend as she coaxed her son Aiden Grimes, 20 months, down the red plastic slide at Washington Park. Grimes was the epitome of summertime cool with a flowered cotton halter, faded jean skirt with black flip flops, over-sized sunglasses and of course, the ever-present swimsuit. You never know when you might have to head to the river this time of year. Don’t forget to bring a towel!

Bringing class back to the industry

Anthony of Anthony’s Cheap Tow has always been one of those characters I thought I’d like to meet. I’ve seen the silhouette of his hat bent slightly forward as he reads a book in his tow truck parked along Wenatchee Ave. around dusk once or twice, but I have never taken the time to stop. Tuesday afternoon however, Anthony was seated, head slightly bent, reading a book at Dusty’s where I was eating lunch. I noticed his full outfit this time-a bolero or bolo tie, long-sleeved Wrangler jean shirt, Wrangler jeans and Wrangler hat with cowboy boots. I asked him about his outfit and he says he’s “bringing class back to the industry,” to which I say, “Bravo!”.

During his impromptu photo shoot Carla Carani, 20, of Bellingham (left) and Karen Potts, 19, of Leavenworth were very taken with Anthony’s look and commented that they wanted to pose with him, so I asked Anthony if that was alright to which he replied, “Go ahead, make my day”. (Okay, he didn’t say that exactly, but he was happy to oblige.)

I see the resemblance, don’t you?

It IS easy being green (and it’s fun)

Jeff Wilkens, of Wenatchee, garnered my attention by riding his bike down the street Thursday afternoon-in his work attire. Wilkens rides his converted Bianchi mountain bike to and from work for a round-trip total of four miles about three times a week. As one of my favorite poets, Kermit The Frog, always said, “It isn’t easy being green,” but Wilkens says it’s actually easier here than most places because you can ride your bike almost eight months of the year without having to battle really inclement weather; and, he says, “I do it because it’s fun”.

Premier

Before the premier of “Sex and the City” last Friday night at Liberty Cinema I chose a select few from the crowd to be photographed. Sara Feltz, 25 (front), Courtney Bratrucle, 18, and Elena Domingez, 19 stood out to me right away. They have an extremely fashionable air about them with a good dash of sensibility. The movie was excellent btw, but the audience (of mostly women) I watched it with was even better! Lots of woots and (possibly) drunken outbursts toward the screen as the characters made good and bad decisions. Not to mention the outfits you all wore-capital”A”mazing! All in all, I was impressed Wenatchee!

SATC Girls’ Night Out (Update)

My bad! “Sex and The City” will be playing at Liberty Cinema in Wenatchee. The first showing is at 4:45 p.m. I’ll be at the 7:45 showing. See you there!

SATC Girls’ Night Out

Tomorrow (Friday) is the opening of “Sex and The City” in theaters across the country and here in the valley it will be playing at Columbia Cinema (East Wenatchee). Apparently, there’s a bit of a frenzy around the event and women everywhere are making it a full-fledged girls’-night-out. I’ll be there along with a few gal pals (insert cringe) to see if the movie lives up to all of our expectations. And, let’s be honest, it’s a good excuse to dress up a little. If you’re there and dressed for the occasion, expect an impromptu fashion shoot!

All American

All American

Bill Mickel, 70, of East Wenatchee caught my eye as he drove his 1959 Chevrolet Apache, with a full-sized American flag attached to the back, down Mission Street Wednesday afternoon. I pulled up next to him in the Goodwill parking lot where he was picking up a very nice wood picnic table to refinish (this is a hobby of his). Bill had a sophistication about him as he stepped out of the truck wearing a pale-yellow sweater vest with a bright-white polo tee under. He completed the look with khakis and a pair of soft-leather loafers. I told him he looked very east coast with a hint of the wild west to him. I guess that was appropriate considering, I found out, he had moved here from Phoenix, Arizona just three years ago.

Walk it out

Lyndsey Files, 31, and Stephanie Fry, 36 (back) looked as if they were on a walk when I spotted them downtown one afternoon, what with their sturdy. yet stylish shoes. It turns out the two Chelan County P.U.D. employees were doing just that.

Stephanie then stopped off to pick up a freshly-stretched pair of Keen BLVD shoes at American Shoe Shop and were on their way again. I photographed them at the entrance to Pak-It-Rite before they headed back to work. Who knew P.U.D. actually stands for Punky Urban Dressers!

What a st-heel!

heel

Heels at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, even in DOWNTOWN Wenatchee aren’t an everyday occurrence here-especially not watermelon pink ones with 3-inch stillettos, but there they were gracefully making their way into Caffe Mela and I had to find out to whom they belonged.

It turns out Kimme Hawkins, 46, of Wenatchee sports these and other trés façionable footwear on a regular basis along with an outfit to match. p.s. Kimme purchased this pair at Macy’s for 9 bucks!
