What’s that smell? It’s the Mariners.

The Seattle Mariners’ ownership is getting worried about dropping attendance figures. Never mind the fact that the team is 16-26, in last place and losers of seven of its last 10 games. Maybe the lingering foul aroma of the Sonics’ debacle is stinking out the city like stale cigarette smoke in a bowling alley.

Is it impossible to believe that all the negative press and bad feelings that was generated after Clay Bennett hijacked the Sonics has carried over to other sports?

The recent success of the Seahawks and the addition of an MLS franchise are so three months ago. In today’s age of instant gratification, Seattle sports has a black cloud around it right now and the Mariners are caught in a torrential downpour of negative energy.

If I were a Mariners fan, I’d do the same thing I do when my car doesn’t start, when people don’t say thank you when I hold the door for them or when I trip over my girlfriend’s cat.

I blame Clay Bennett.
