Another outdoor sports first
I think a lot of people out here (my editor Steve and my fiance’s family, I’m looking at you), get a real kick out of watching my big-time, East Coast butt bumble and stumble around trying outdoor recreational sports that just aren’t done in New Jersey.
The paper has sent me whitewater rafting, (two thumbs up), paddling the Columbia in a canoe (one up, one down), and Rochelle took me snowmobiling with her father, her sister and my future brother-in-law on Saturday.
Gotta say, I loved it.
I was nervous that I didn’t have the right clothes, and that a snowmobile would roll over on me and I’d sustain a serious injury. I was 1-for-2. My boots weren’t warm enough, but I figured out how to drive those things pretty quickly.
We went to the Waterville/Douglas area, but you can read all about that stuff in Rochelle’s blog. What a great day. After riding 30 miles through vast, snowy emptiness, I had a serious hankering for beef stew and a dark beer by a crackling fire.
Fajitas and a bottle of Sol did just fine.
