Samurai Blogging, Tappan Style, Chop! Chop!
“Guilty as charged, your Honor!” Yes, I must plead guilty as charged. Sometimes when I write one of my blogs the ordnance (ammunition) lying at my feet is so plentiful and I am laughing so hard that the simple contrivances of grammar and syntax fall somewhere by the wayside. I think that I might be susceptible at times to a one track mind. Now mind you, I want to keep it in accordance with my notion of the truth but also entertaining. For me blogging is a thoroughly entertaining, enlightening, and educational experience. I don’t need to meet bloggers to get the general gist as to how I might feel about them.
To be honest, most would and do bore me. Some are so truly predictable. They go down their ballot and pick the letter of their life (such as (D) or (R)) and that defines them into perpetuity. Truth be known I have my favorites but usually in elections I am looking at choices and not preferences. In this election cycle I am blessed; one of the few times in my life politically. I am going to be able to vote for two preferences. The first will be in the position 2 state legislative race where I am strongly supporting the candidacy of Courtney Cox; Go Courtney! The other race involves the upper valley’s Werner Janssen running as the incumbent to serve another four year term as our Chelan County PUD Commissioner. The great thing about Werner is that he is the only Chelan County PUD Commissioner that I trust implicitly to listen to me and to thoughtfully consider my concerns and those of others. There is one other but I will not mention her name at this time.
As your replete and humble Samurai blogger (SB) I am able to understand how Quentin Tarantino (QT) feels when he is writing a movie script (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, etc.). At times the only thing that saves me from complete shutdown is my blazing speed on my trusty HP keyboard. I can barely keep pace with my mind when my thoughts take to the air unimpeded as the cornucopia of words, phrases, and competing thoughts go whizzing by. Don’t get me wrong, I hate most of QT’s movies. I must confess that in my 400+ DVD collection I do have one of his movies; only one, mind you! That movie is the classic George (C)looney flick, From Dusk until Dawn! I must further confess that I have only watched it once since owning a copy (first time at a friend’s house years ago). Actually, I bought it because it was so cheap (inexpensively cheesy) that I could not afford to pass it up; I love border bar stories.
In the end Samurai blogger is a romantic when it comes to his blog (a blog is this man’s best friend). I don’t really enjoy reading; most reading that is. What I do enjoy reading is a biting, critically inspired kind of writing. I loved Buckley’s Conservative musings. However, I do enjoy such best selling thrillers as Plato’s Republic (i.e., The allegory of the Cave), Jum Nunally’s Psychometric Theory, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologica, and Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations, to name a few. Everett Rogers was a rural Sociologist who spent much of his career as a Professor at Stanford University. He studied cultures in developing countries and attempted to glean meaning as to how certain types of social innovations would travel or not travel throughout given societies and how quickly that might occur. Through his work medical personal and others were able to craft select strategies that aided them in providing a high level of care and a more thorough cultural understanding quickly and efficiently.
Not to belabor the point but Aquinas is very intriguing in terms of his positions relative to what he refers to as the transmigration of the soul, etc. St. Thomas Aquinas was obviously a deep thinker and a very inspired Catholic Theologian. Our House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, could further enrich her theological credentials if she were to study the writings of such a man before she retreated to deliver her own Catholic based encyclicals. On that point, I was once asked if I thought the Pope was infallible with respect to Church doctrine. After a thoughtful moment or two, I responded, “Yes, he could be, if he was as considerate of the truth and its meaning as me, the Samurai blogger!” Thanks for the opportunity to inspire, frustrate, infuriate, cheer up and tick you off; it continues to be my pleasure.
