4.3 GPA, is that a typo?
Who in the world gets a 4.3 grade point average? I’ll tell you who, Adam McKenzie of the Wenatchee Wild hockey team. In plain, polite terms he’ll also tell you that it could have been higher. Adam is one of the lucky few players to have already attained one of the goals of the NAHL, placement on a NCAA Division 1 college team. In the near future you can see Adam playing some “smart” defense for Air Force Academy.
Many people wonder what level of hockey the Wild play. The NAHL is a feeder league for Division 1 Hockey teams. This is right on par with the USHL, another high level hockey league, but just a small step below the WHL, in which the Spokane Chiefs, Seattle T-Birds and Tri-Cities Americans play. The league consists of 16-20 year olds, or as they are often referred to as 88s, 89s, 90s, or 91s, corresponding to their year of birth (or for me, the years I spent in high school!). The next step in this league is a spot on one of the top college teams in the nation. These are the kids who not only want to succeed in hockey but also in a career later in life. Kids like Adam and the other sharp kids on the Wild are well on their way.
