Sunday experiment
We’ve begun a month-long experiment to see if there’s enough news Sunday to justify staffing the day with a reporter full time. The goal is to put more local stories in the Monday paper, and on our Web site.
At the end of the experiment, the plan is to take a look at the Monday paper, compare it with what we had before, factor in any improvement in the Web site, and then make a decision.
Reporters will check with police and fire agencies for overnight news and then cover a story or two during the day. Breaking news will trump the planned stories.
Christine Pratt is the first of the reporters to pull the Sunday shift.
Today, Chris is checking out an event at Appleatchee that is expected to attract 500 people. This afternoon she and Photographer Kathryn Stevens will cover a family picnic of National Guard members headed to Iraq.
This will be on top of our coverage of Saturday events: A school clothing giveaway sponsored by Serve Wenatchee Valley and a reunion of graduates of the long-closed Peshastin-Dryden School.
If all works well, we will have four weekend stories to run in Monday’s paper, instead of the usual two, as well as any breaking news.
We’ll see how it goes.

Sunday news on Monday instead of Tuesday…great idea if you ask me.
We do get national and international stuff adequately covered on the iternet and tv; I’ll look forward to the normally thin Monday edition being thickened up a bit with Sunday’s news.

Hello,
Can you tell me why the Blog,”applesauce” is part of
the paper?
No personal egress to the writer, but it seems the content,”nickname” and just the “feel” of the blog is a notch below the personal, but profesional newspaper the community reads.Has there been any consideration for placement in a weekly newspaper,or community newsletter for this blog?
I realize the blog is personal opinion, however the publication in YOUR paper by one of YOUR staff links the”WORLD” and the blog, even if not intended.
The daily paper you and staff deliver each day doesn’t deserve to be linked, even remotely to “jounalism??”of this sort.
The “World” does a great job of inviting the community to
be a participant, not just a viewer by providing local coverage in the paper that is interesting and enticing .Beyond the every day usual news events….people want to ….
Read about what?
Themselves.
Their neighbors, the neighbors dog,the bosses son and his ticket for disturbing the peace, and of course, you know–on and on,,,, like…
Local”Dear Abby”(like) column by anonymous local writer,or general health information they can discuss over the fence, or simply “Regular Person” focus
highlighting the”Wenatchee Life”,at times great, sometimes not. This community will read the good and/or the gritty as long as it is an honest reflection of their lives.
This comment is intended to be constructive.
A readers perspective.
I will take my comment off the air.
Thank-you,
B.T.
Hmm. First, I am trying to understand the sense of ‘egress’ in the second sentence.
Second, While I have issues with the grammar and word choice in some of the “Applesauce” blogs, the general sense is that of a young man writing in a style and manner common to the younger generation.
The Wenatchee World has many readers, and they all aren’t of my generation, or even of my older children’s. Language, style, subjects change and what interests one generation isn’t always of interest to the next. Travis has written some nice pieces for the World. In his blog he mentioned how he is going from one field to another which may mean an adjustment in what he thinks and writes. I think the blogs are thoughts…expressions of opinion, the relating of personal activities..and as such, one person’s blog has as much relevance as another’s. And if an individual’s blog doesn’t appeal to you, you don’t have to read it.
