Fire & Ice

I am a blog slacker.  It’s been more than a month since I’ve written here.  If I had two hands at any point over the holidays I had to use them to wrap gifts, make lists, check them twice, etc.  Then the holidays were over and just when we thought everything would be back to normal we had to take our daughter to the ER and spend 4 1/2 days in  pediatrics at CWH.  She is completely fine.  She had a weird reaction to some moisturizer which appeared to be a bacterial infection on her face.  I was pleased as punch that the five physicians who saw her didn’t send us home telling us we were stupid parents who worry too much.  We’re very thankful to Central Washington Hospital and Doctors Baumeister and Eisert of the Wenatchee Valley Clinic in East Wenatchee.

So we’re out of the hospital.  What to do with our newfound freedom?  Ooh, I know, go to Chelan.  It’s one of the few places outside Wenatchee to which one can still easily drive these days.  Winterfest: Fire and Ice at the Lake begins this Friday, January 16.  There will be a lot of activities, most of them FREE and kid-friendly.  They include but are not limited to:  Ice-sculpting, snow sculpting, ice skating, sleigh rides and live entertainment.  Saturday night at 5 p.m. you can watch (or be a part of) the Torchlight Parade which will weave through downtown Chelan toward Don Morse Park.  There you will find a bonfire on the beach and a prime viewing spot for the crazies who choose to take part in the Polar Bear Splash.  Seriously, people?  Even as a kid, jumping into Lake Chelan on the hottest day of the year felt like a Polar Bear Splash.  The fireworks will begin at about 5:45.  January seems to me a safer time of the year to have fireworks than July.  Little Peebles faces will be basking in the warmth of a bonfire watching fireworks.  It’s gonna make for some cute pictures.  See you there!
