The Wenatchee Pterodactyl: The song

Remember the Wenatchee Pterodactyl?pterodactyl2.jpg

You know, the  funny footnote in the news that popped up late last year when a man told the cops he crashed into light pole because a of a pterodactyl?

Well, it is back and this time it has returned in the form of a song.

A Seattle electronica musician by the name of Three Ninjas, posted the song on a MySpace page.

The song itself has no mention of a pterodactyl or Wenatchee for that matter, but the song is titled “Wenatchee Pterodactyl.”  You can listen to it here.

Finding out about the musical incarnation of the Wenatcheee pterodactyl got me to thinking about how odd news tends to stick around, something we know a little bit about here in the Wenatchee World newsroom. After all, this is the place where a cow fell off a cliff and hit a moving car and emergency dispatchers direct aid vehicles where to go based on that location.

After listening to the song I zipped over a link to the track to World education reporter Rachel Schleif. Rachel wrote the story about the pterodactyl and she had this to say about her most famous story:

The other day I was getting my haircut and another hair dresser asked me what I do for a living. When I told her, she said, “You’re the reporter who covered the pterodactyl! That was the best story all year.” Of all the stories I’ve done in my journalistic career, I can’t believe that THATS my most famous story.”

I’ll have more on the Wenatchee Pterodactyl song and its creator, Jason Brunet (a.k.a. Three Ninjas), when I get back from vacation next week.

That pterodactyl story was the most memorable piece I’ve read in a very long time. Even today if I mention it, we will start laughing again.

  2. I was amazed that Jason (Three Ninjas) mentioned the article to me before I was able to read it for myself in the World! News travels fast! Whenever I cross the bridge, I look around…just in case…
